Adrian McBride adrian@lifeaftersports.org Former NFL wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Cardinals Adrian McBride has been consulting in the recruitment, transition and career placement business since 1988, starting that year with Christopher and Long, a St. Louis-based manufacturing and physician search and placement firm. In 1992, Adrian branched out and started his own placement company, the McBride Company, a recruitment, transition and placement company. His niche was supporting and helping manufacturing management team leaders transition from one company to another. After nine years on his own, Adrian accepted a position with Riddell Sports as their Youth Football Representative. Within one year, Adrian had more than tripled the sales and customer base for Riddell. Within three years Adrian was working with well over 80% of the youth football groups in the eastern half of Missouri. In 2002, Adrian revived the recruitment, transition and placement business and began working with professional athletes; mentoring them and helping them transition out of the sports world and into the real world. McBride's knowledge of both college and professional sports is significant. He played college football at the University of Tennessee in 1981 and the University of Missouri from 1982-1985 and professionally in the National Football League with the Cleveland Browns in 1986 and the St. Louis Cardinals in 1987. Today, Adrian offers consulting, recruitment, placement and other transition services to current and former student-athletes and a select list of corporate clients. Drawing on his experience in staffing and recruitment, Adrian observed that many former athletes were having difficulty making the transition from being a well-known college or professional athlete to a fulltime non-athletic career. Research on the subject showed Adrian that most student-athletes spend their time and energy preparing for the next practice, the next game, and the next level. But, very few prepare for what lies ahead once their sports careers end. This becomes a time of harsh reality for most college athletes. He made it his new goal to help athletes make the transition from the world of sports to Life After Sports™. Finding interesting and challenging work for athletes who spent over 10-15 years focusing on athletics can be frustrating and overwhelming. It takes time, skill, resourcefulness, and a knowledgeable career coach to help make the transition. At Life After Sports™, we pride ourselves in helping athletes find a passion for something outside their sport, and help them become employed in that field of interest. Adrian is married to Julie Dorn-McBride (a former All-American gymnast at Mizzou). Together, the McBrides have a daughter, Regan; Adrian also has one son, Andrew. |
