Two-Time NCAA All-American Gymnast

Julie Dorn-McBride understands how challenging it is to make the transition from sports to a post-competition career. Starting at the age of seven, Julie's life revolved around gymnastics. By the age of ten she spent upwards of 35 hours a week in the gym training. All of her training paid off, for she competed world wide and at high levels through her private club in Minnesota and then went on to earn many honors at the University of Missouri including:
  • All-Big Eight Gymnast (1989-1991)
  • Two-Time NCAA All-American Gymnast (1990-1991)
  • 1991 Big Eight Female Athlete of the Year
  • Inducted into the University of Missouri
Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame (1996)
In 1991, Julie made her initial transition to Life After Sports™. With a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and Counseling, she went to work with "at risk" children in an outpatient setting in Kansas City, Missouri. Julie remembers how challenging this time in her life was: "My sport, my passion, had suddenly come to an end. Dealing with the changes that had taken place in my life was overwhelming. I hadn't thought about life after gymnastics until it was upon me. At Life After Sports™, it is our goal to help make this an enjoyable and rewarding time for student-athletes of today."

After deciding to pursue a sports-related career, Julie returned to the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1992, and obtained a Master's of Education with an emphasis in Sport Management & Athletic Administration while working as a Graduate Assistant to the Athletics Director.

Upon completing her graduate degree, Julie joined the Big Eight Conference and helped coordinate championships and tournaments for various sports such as volleyball, basketball, and gymnastics. In 1996, she moved to Dallas, Texas with the Big 12 Conference and became the Director of Events, where she coordinated the Big 12 Football Championship, Basketball Tournaments and annual Big 12 Spring Meetings; and oversaw the Big 12 partnership with Special Olympics.

Julie moved into the professional sector of sports in 2000 when she joined the Kansas City Chiefs Football Club as Director of Special Events. Here Julie coordinated college football games played at Arrowhead Stadium along with other special events and concerts such as NSYNC and George Strait.

In 2004, Julie returned to her alma mater and the University of Missouri Athletic Department, and is currently the Director of Life Skills.

Julie is married to Adrian McBride (former wide receiver for the Missouri Tigers, Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Cardinals). Together, the McBrides have a daughter, Regan; Adrian also has one son, Andrew.
